SkeptiCamp NYC 2024

SkeptiCamp is like a science conference, except the content is provided by the attendees themselves! Anyone can be a presenter, as long as your topic has something to do with science and/or skepticism.

We hope that the sessions emerge as lively discussions, rather than straight-forward seminars. Presenters should be ready for challenging questions! Audience members can join us in-person OR virtually, but we ask that presenters attend in-person.

SkeptiCamp NYC 2024 is now accepting registrations! Registration is free of charge. Speakers are required to register on our website. Non-speaker attendees are encouraged to do so as well to join our community.

SkeptiCamp starts at 9:30 am and goes on until 6:00 pm on Saturday, December 7. Each lecture is approximately half an hour long. Late arrivals welcome. There will be lunch and rest breaks.

Exoplanets, Fermi's Paradox, and Memes with Dr. Caleb Scharf

Dr. Caleb Scharf will discuss recent work on studying climate states of terrestrial-type planets in preparation for future astronomical studies of other worlds. He'll also talk about new computer modeling work on the long-standing 'Fermi Paradox' - the absence of signs of interstellar civilizations in our galaxy - and an intriguing possible resolution, and some ideas about the nature of memes in the context of searching for signals from elsewhere in the universe.
