Join us for Skeptics Night at the Gravesend Inn 2010

For the third year, Brooklyn's high-tech Gravesend Inn haunted attraction at NYC College of Technology is welcoming NYC Skeptics.

This year, in addition to a backstage tour with systems designer John Huntington, NYC Skeptics attendees are invited to participate in a skeptical psychological research study!

Announcing the official NYC Skeptics Meeetup group

We are pleased to announce that after 3 years of being an informal gathering of skeptics, the New York Skeptics Meetup is now the official Meetup of New York City Skeptics!

With this will also come changes in format, schedule, and venue to the Meetup.

The Meetup will now be a formal discussion group, with a different topic every month. These discussions will be initially lead by NYC Skeptics board member Massimo Pigliucci.

A new venue and time is also being considered, and we would like to hear from you! Please join the Meetup!

Julia Galef Joins NYC Skeptics Board of Directors

We are pleased to announce that Julia Galef will join the NYC Skeptics board of directors, effective immediately. Julia's involvement with NYC Skeptics began in September of 2009 while writing an article for the Humanist covering the first NECSS conference (available here). Julia now serves on the NECSS organizing committee and is co-host of Rationally Speaking, the official podcast of NYC Skeptics.

NYC Skeptics to be well represented at TAM8

The Amaz!ng Meeting, hosted each year in Las Vegas by the James Randi Educational Foundation, is the largest skeptical conference in the world. "TAM," as it is affectionately known, boasts presenters, panelists, and attendees from every part of the skeptical spectrum. This year, New York City Skeptics is proud to once again be well represented:

  • NYC Skeptics president Michael Feldman will moderate the grassroots skepticism panel.
  • NYC Skeptics vice president Jamy Ian Swiss, who has participated in every TAM except one, will once again join James Randi on stage for a special "interview."
  • Rationally Speaking podcast host and NYC Skeptics board member Massimo Pigliucci will both present and participate in a panel discussion on Global Climate Change.
  • Rationally Speaking co-host Julia Galef will moderate a paranormal investigations panel.
  • NYC Skeptics is also co-sponsoring a very special Drinking Skeptically @ TAM8. The event will take place at 9PM on Thursday July 8 in the Silverado Lounge.
  • NECSS 2009 DVDs and NECSS 2010 t-shirts will be on sale at the Skeptics Guide to the Universe table. These items will be available at special TAM discounted pricing.
